Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Hands down, the best book I read this year. This very compelling novel takes place in the United States in the future where resources are slim and survival takes courage and resourcefulness. Twenty-four children are chosen, two from each district, to compete to the death in the "hunger games." The winner will bring glory and much needed resources back to his district. Warning: this novel is fairly violent (but not really graphic) -readers should know this before beginning. But, wow, what a story and great writing!! The sequel Catching Fire will be out September 1.
Read this book and its sequel and come to the Hunger Games party we will be having at school in the fall - there will be discussions, trivia contests, and activities based on the two books. So if you are interested, read, read, read ...

  1. Great teaser. I definately will add this book to my summer reading list. It is such a scary concept, and when the current reality shows started getting more extreme, I thought about the theme of the novel. It has been pursued by other authors, as well. I do hope it never comes to this.
