Artichoke's Heart by Suzanne Supplee

Artichoke's Heart is a strange title for a very good book. Rosemary is an overweight fifteen year-old. Throughout the book, as she struggles to control her eating, she also builds up her self-confidence enough to begin dating Kyle, a football player. Rosemary is a wonderfully drawn character who we get to know very well - through her drinking Pounds-Away meals, standing up to the mean girls in school, and helping her mother who has been diagnosed with cancer.

This is a very good book written from the perspective of an overweight teen who the reader will find is very much like a typical teen after all.
