Wow, what a terrific book! Very similar in style to both of the books mentioned above. Gaia is a great heroine - smart, feisty, and fearless. After her mother and father are taken away, Gaia must continue her mother's work as a midwife. Along with that responsibility, comes the duty to give up the first two babies born each month and hand them over to the Enclave-priveledged people who live inside the wall.
This is a fascinating page-turner. Many plot twists and adventures kept me returning to this book to just read a few more pages, then a few pages more ...
I haven't let students get their hands on this book because I wanted to finish it - can't wait to hear what they say about this one!
