After - Francine Prose

Life is different now. School feels like a prison. We must first go through metal detectors. We can't wear red. There are random drug tests for every school athlete. Our teachers are mysteriously leaving. Nothing is the same since there was a terrible school shooting fifty miles away.

This is a very interesting novel about what happens when protection goes too far and students have no rights at all. At first, students and parents felt safer, but after several classmates get sent away for small infractions, Tom Bishop and his friends are beginning to think that things have gone too far. This was a very quick read and a book that not only was exciting, but was thought provoking, too.
