Claudia has a theory for becoming popular - "The Ladder." If Cara follows the Ladder step-by-step, Claudia is sure that Cara will become one of the Populazzi - one of the most popular girls in the school.
On her first day of school, Cara needs to make friends with and perhaps later date, a student who is mildly popular. Once they become a couple, Cara is to break-up with him, and then date someone higher up on the ladder. Then repeat ...
This is a fun, rather light-hearted look at high school dynamics, but underneath the glitz and gossip, we get to know Cara and her new best friend (boyfriend?) Archer. Above all, her teenage angst rings true and I think all teenage girls would love to be best friends with Archer.
I really enjoyed this book, but there are some sex scenes that make this book more appropriate for mature 8th grade girls and older.
