The Raft by S.A. Bodeen

S.A. Bodeen, author of The Compound and The Gardner, has written a different kind of survival story this time.

Robie's plane crashes in the middle of the Pacific islands and she must survive until an airplane spots her or until the raft she is on washes ashore on one of the tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The Raft reminded me of Gary Paulson's survival books and I think both boys and girls would be interested in reading this story. Robie is pretty much a typical teenage girl - not really equipped to survive on her own. She has no water, only one bag of Skittles, and most importantly no one to look for her because her parents think she is visiting her aunt in Hawaii for the week.

Although Robie lives on a tropical island, she is afraid of water and doesn't know how to swim. She is terrified of sharks and there are plenty of sharks that surround her raft. How will she survive? Will she survive? Read this book to see!
