The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

If you liked The Hunger Games and Divergent, then there is no doubt you will like The Testing. In some ways it's a bit simpler than The Hunger Games/Divergent, but if The 5th Wave is a bit too complex, then The Testing may be just right for you.

No one from Five Lakes Colony has been chosen to be tested for many years, but this year Cia and 3 other students have been selected to be tested. This means if they pass the tests, they will be allowed to go to University and become a leader for the United Commonwealth.

Cia is very excited, but begins to worry when her father, who was tested many years ago, tells her to "trust no one." That advice becomes very true when Cia and the other students are taken to be tested. At first, the tests are just academic, but soon students are pitted against other students in psychological and physical warfare. Cia must survive even if that means perhaps defending herself to the death. Who can she trust along the way? She makes some good decisions, but does make a few that could be deadly.

This would make a great summer read - it will capture your attention, but won't tax your brain too much to keep characters and the plot straight.

  3. Would you be willing to review my book, Awakening (Hope Trilogy #1)? Although not dystopian, it is thrilling and suspenseful like Hunger Games and Divergent. Please email me either on goodreads or at www.hopetrilogy.com. I would be glad to send you an ebook copy. Thank you very much for your consideration.
