Cinder ( Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer

I loved this book and have no idea why I put off reading it for so long! Cinder is a cyborg who lives in New Beijing 123 years after World War IV. At first I thought it would just be an updated version of Cinderella, but Cinder has so many twists and turns that differ from the original fairy tale that it really is completely it's own story.

Meyer has created a futuristic world that is bleak, interesting, and completely captivated me. A deadly plague has swept through the city, and scientists cannot find a cure. The emperor of New Beijing has died of the plague and his son Prince Kai will be crowned in a few days. The Queen of Lunar, the enemy planet, has come to New Beijing, hoping to marry Prince Kai and take over New Beijing.

Prince Kai has invited Cinder to the ball, but Cinder is too busy making plans to escape the city to take time out to attend. But when Cinder finds out a deadly secret that Prince Kai must know immediately, she must attend the ball after all. But unlike the fairy tale, Cinder is soaked in the pouring rain, has a mechanical hand that the Prince doesn't know about, and is hobbling around on a prosthetic foot that is much too small for her - a fairy tale princess she is not!

I think this book will be very popular with sci-fi/fantasy fans along with readers who like humor, adventure and romance in their books. I loved it and highly recommend it!
